Welcome to Cat Happy!

My name is Jaime Johnson and I am a cat behavior consultant, trainer, and pet care professional. In my practice with animals I use intuition, energy work, essential oils and other holistic methods to help restore harmony in the household. I believe in the energetic connection between guardians and the animals who live with them.

My approach to behavior consulting is all about considering the WHOLE picture. I look at each cat as an individual being with his/her own unique set of needs and preferences. I believe that proper nutrition is an important component to a well-behaved cat. I teach my clients the art of playtime, how/when/what/where to feed, clicker training, and I love finding creative solutions to the problems that people and their cats are having. When there is an issue at hand, I see it both as a disharmony in the energy, and a breakdown in the communication that human and cat are each trying to convey. This is why I absolutely love using both training methods AND energy work in my practice.

When I take on a new client, I am completely invested in their success. Therefore, my clients are ready and willing to do the work it takes to re-establish the bond with their cats, learn new skills, catify their homes, and they are ready to get Cat Happy.

My Background

Growing up, I never had a cat due to allergies in my family, but I was quickly converted into a cat lover as an adult. I have a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach, which has helped me to combine my love of animals with my understanding of their guardians. In 2012 I began to oversee the cattery at Rancho Coastal Humane Society and I learned how important it is to understand both human and feline nature in order for cats to be successful in their homes. I worked with adopters to troubleshoot issues they were having with introducing their new cat to other pets, as well as other issues like litter box avoidance, inappropriate scratching, hyperactivity, door dashing, and much more.

While at the humane society I started fostering kittens, bottle feeding, weaning, litter box training, the whole deal. I also took adult cats into my home to work with behavioral problems and litter box issues. In 2013 I adopted my first cat, 16 year old Simba, who is largely responsible for my kitty affinity.

I never want to stop learning and I want to be as well-rounded as possible in my specialized field. I completed a Cat Behavior Consulting Mentorship in 2017 through the IAABC; I am a Reiki 2 certified; I completed a Feline Nutrition Certification in early 2018; I earned my Certified Dog Trainer Certificate through the Companion Animal Sciences Institute in 2015. I attend conferences and read books about using essential oils to promote emotional freedom in both people and animals. I am a Healing Touch for Animals Level 1 Practitioner and I am constantly learning new things about energy work/vibrational healing and I work with energy healers who have the same interests. I am also working with Animal Behavior College toward a Cat Training Certification so that I can be as effective as possible with teaching cats and their humans a common language.

At present I live in Carlsbad with my three rescue cats. I also volunteer with various rescue organizations and train with their cats to make them more adoptable. My ultimate dream is to have a sanctuary home for senior kitizens, supported by a career in cat behavior, feline nutrition and holistic healing.
